Some of the artwork that I sell online at   Vintage Art Room   is found at "loppis" (flea market) here. When I am at "loppisar" (plural for flea market!) I have to sort through a lot of artwork- it's a very dirty job actually. I think that for every 100-150 paintings I look at I am lucky to find one good one. The Swede's were quite prolific painters both amateurs and professional up until about the 70's. Knut Norman was a very confident painter and his paintings are always filled with atmosphere and light. He laid down his paint without any hesitation and left it. Some painters put down a stroke and then fiddle with it to adjust the shape of color until there is no life left in it. Knut was not one of those painters. He made a decision and kept it. He knew how to steer and manipulate the viewer into seeing his vision which worked very well for him. I think it is the first self portrait I've found. The signature is Wanda L and dated 1961. It's actually a double self portrait of the artist painting herself. The time period is well captured with her mod haircut and striped shirt. The colors are clear and harmonious and there is a certain strength to the composition. You can tell Wanda L was a very confident artist. I am not sure Wanda was from Sweden. Original Mid Century Framed Oil Painting by Owe Wessbohn When I saw the corner of this piece I knew right away that it would be a fantastic piece. I saw the glow of colors in the bottom right corner behind some other paintings that were stacked against a wall in an old shop and had to pull it out to see it immediately. It's the thrill of the hunt. I sort through so many hundreds of pieces of art when out just to find a few. It's a very dirty job actually but when I come across pieces such as this one it makes it all worth while.  I am really torn about having this one listed or keeping it myself.  The colors are so fantastic. Clear and vibrant in the foreground with more muted colors in the back give this painting life. You can feel the heaviness of the cart the man is pushing. The heaviness is accentuated by the composition form of a triangle. The man's back and the angle of the rocks towards the center create a heaviness and solidity to the subject matter.
