Oil on newspaper applied to board. Great painting of boats beached on a stormy shore. Thickly applied paint in beautiful tonal blues ranging from aqua to grey. Carl Berendtsson studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm and worked both in Europe in Scandinavia. His earliest work shows the influence of French post-impressionism but later works became increasingly more modern in appearance, often reducing scenes to a few simple shapes. He must have had some international success as a painter as I see references to him on international art sights and his paintings are listed at much higher rates. Measures 39cm high x 51cm wide.
