A fantastic moody expressionist seascape oil painting by, Swedish painter and listed artist, Einar Emland. E Emland studied painting with Jules Schyl at Tekniska Skolan, and with Wilhelm Grüttrud in Oslo, with Rostrup Bøyesen in Copenhagen and at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris 1946-1951.    Emland liked to depict everyday people and happenings and believed that art should available to everyone not just the wealthy.  Emland was a very productive painter other depicting faceless figures, landscapes and still lifes. Original Mid Century Self Portrait Oil Painting by Wanda L from Sweden Click Here for More Information or to Purchase SOLD  I absolutely love finding portraits and this one was quite a find. I think it is the first self portrait I've found. The signature is Wanda L and dated 1961. It's actually a double self portrait of the artist painting herself. The time period is well captured with her mod haircut and striped shirt. The colors are clear and harmonious and there is a certain strength to the composition. You can tell Wanda L was a very confident artist. I am not sure Wanda was from Sweden.
