Vintage Painting of Ships in Port by Danish Artist C K Hansen

Wow! At first I almost dismissed this painting, but then I caught a glimpse of it again out of the corner of my eye and saw it's beauty. The subtle and very atmospheric background with it's glowing lights really are beautifully rendered. The painting has such wonderful depth. The channel marker in the foreground glows against the foggy and very atmospheric background where you can just make out the shapes of boats and their lights thru the fog. 140USD Carlo Knud Hansen (b1920), Denmark. CK Hansen had no real formal academic painting as an artist but did actively study art independently with excellent results.  After leaving Denmark in 1950 for independent studies he exhibited in, among other places, Paris, Cannes, Rom och Sorrento. It's something I am guilty of too. But, when I find a piece like this, obviously painted with a skillfull hand, I feel frustrated not being able to put a name to it. Maybe it just adds to the intrigue of this piece.  On the back it says "Cliffs at Starndhagen- Arild". Arild is a coastal town about 30km above Helsingborg that attracts artists by the droves for its scenic views and many plein air painting opportunities. SOLD
