 Fab Moody Mid Century Seascape by Einar Emland I can't believe this hasn't been snapped up yet! A fantastic moody expressionist seascape oil painting by, Swedish painter and listed artist, Einar Emland. E Emland studied painting with Jules Schyl at Tekniska Skolan, and with Wilhelm Grüttrud in Oslo, with Rostrup Bøyesen in Copenhagen and at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris 1946-1951.    Emland liked to depict everyday people and happenings and believed that art should available to everyone not just the wealthy.  Emland was a very productive painter other depicting faceless figures, landscapes and still lifes. Eda studied in Paris at Académie Colarossi and other art schools in Europe and Sweden. Very beautiful impressionistic coastal painting with confident brush strokes showing bravura and excellent understanding of color and color usage making the subject matter appear realistic and add great depth to the painting that draws the viewer into the scene. The repetition of colors in the composition unifies the painting and provides contrast between the lights, darks and textures in the sea and rocks. A very lovely painting in person. The artist used a limited color palette which  gives the painting nice color harmony. Staying away from sharp color he didn't go overboard in putting a bunch of details which lets the eye glide around the canvas. I think this lends the painting an overall feeling of tranquility. Oil on newspaper applied to board. Great painting of boats beached on a stormy shore. Thickly applied paint in beautiful tonal blues ranging from aqua to grey. Carl Berendtsson studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm and worked both in Europe in Scandinavia. His earliest work shows the influence of French post-impressionism but later works became increasingly more modern in appearance, often reducing scenes to a few simple shapes. He must have had some international success as a painter as I see references to him on international art sights and his paintings are listed at much higher rates. Measures 39cm high x 51cm wide.
