Original Vintage, Fine Art Landscape painting from Sweden, signed C Berndtsson. Oil on newspaper applied to board. Great painting of boats beached on a stormy shore. Thickly applied paint in beautiful tonal blues ranging from aqua to grey. Carl Berendtsson studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm and worked both in Europe in Scandinavia. His earliest work shows the influence of French post-impressionism but later works became increasingly more modern in appearance, often reducing scenes to a few simple shapes. He must have had some international success as a painter as I see references to him on international art sights and his paintings are listed at much higher rates. Measures 39cm high x 51cm wide. Interesting use of materials with pleasing color harmonies and composition. Wickman is represented in several museum collections in Sweden and was the uncle of 1970's icon Cat Stevens. Erik Olson Original Mid Century Print Sweden Click Here for More Information or to Purchase  I am continuously surprised and sometimes a bit saddened by what is available in charity shops and flea markets here in Sweden. Some of the artwork that I sell online at   Vintage Art Room   is found at "loppis" (flea market) here. When I am at "loppisar" (plural for flea market!) I have to sort through a lot of artwork- it's a very dirty job actually. I think that for every 100-150 paintings I look at I am lucky to find one good one. The Swede's were quite prolific painters both amateurs and professional up until about the 70's. I don't find much work produced in the 80's and on.  When I come across pieces like this print mid century print by Erik Olson of the Swedish art circle Halmstadgruppen I am amazed.  There is a museum here in Sweden devoted solely to the Halmstad Group called Mjellby Art Museum . A fantastic moody expressionist seascape oil painting by, Swedish painter and listed artist, Einar Emland. E Emland studied painting with Jules Schyl at Tekniska Skolan, and with Wilhelm Grüttrud in Oslo, with Rostrup Bøyesen in Copenhagen and at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris 1946-1951.    Emland liked to depict everyday people and happenings and believed that art should available to everyone not just the wealthy.  Emland was a very productive painter other depicting faceless figures, landscapes and still lifes.
